HLS08-Winter Truck Camping in a Wind Storm! ( WOLF HUNTING! ) - High Lonesome Society
As father and son took my newly built DIY truck camper deeper into the Montana backcountry to test a new dual-sleeping setup and track the most elusive predator in the West: the Wolf. I brought my son Gavin along for the mission, but what started as a winter truck camping trip quickly turned into a battle against the elements.
We drove deep into the night to reach the Wolf Management Unit, sleeping in the truck topper to be in position at first light. But the mountains had other plans. We faced gale-force winds that nearly blew us off the ridge, hiked miles up a frozen river bottom, and had a massive tree snap and crash down just yards from where we stood.
This video is a look at the reality of public land hunting, the bond built through shared misery, and the performance of a budget pickup camper build in harsh winter conditions.
🛠️ In This Video:
DIY Truck Camper Tour: Testing the new two-man sleeping platform in sub-freezing temps.
Wolf Hunting Strategy: How we glass and track wolves in heavy timber and deep snow.
Winter Survival: Cooking simple meals in 60mph wind gusts and staying safe when the timber starts falling.
Father & Son Adventure: Teaching the next generation that comfort is overrated and competence is earned.

The Philosophy: "Intentional Discomfort Feeds the Soul." Whether it's the cold, the wind, or the miles, these are the moments that build character. I built this rig to get us out there, not to keep us comfortable.
