Welcome back to the mountains! In this self-reliance adventure, I head deep into the rugged Highwood Mountains of Montana for a solo, 48-hour hunt. My mission was clear: secure the highest quality meat possible—a cow elk—to feed my family through the winter. The mountains, however, had other plans.
Watch as I make basecamp inside an incredible, restored 1950s school bus that's been hauled to a remote ranch location. You'll see the challenges of backcountry hunting logistics, the frustration of being surrounded by bull elk but no cows, and the quick decision that leads to an ethical harvest of a massive old whitetail buck.
