ZRS273-Why Property Taxes Are Evil - Steve Oglesby Is Back on The Zach Rateliff Show - The Zach Rateliff Show

Zach Rateliff and his longtime sidekick Steve dive deep into the claim that property taxes are a fundamentally unjust relic of feudalism that should be scrapped for a single consumption tax. The episode opens with Zach recalling past political attempts in Texas, then launches into a vivid narrative about a retired couple who have paid off their home for decades, only to watch the government claim a slice of that legacy each year. Drawing on historical anecdotes from William the Conqueror’s claim to all land, the biblical injunction against stealing, and John Locke’s philosophy of property as a natural right, the hosts argue that the tax is a modern form of legalized plunder. They walk listeners through how appraisal districts determine tax bills, how unpaid taxes can trigger forced sales, and why the current system fuels a cycle of ever‑rising rates. The conversation then shifts to a concrete proposal: replace the property tax – and the myriad local taxes it supports – with a single sales‑type consumption tax, eliminating appraisal districts, bond‑funded overcharges, and the threat of losing a home. Throughout, Zach emphasizes the human impact on families, farms, and small businesses, urging listeners to join the EliminatePropertyTax.com campaign and demand legislative change. The episode blends history, scripture, economics, and on‑the‑ground stories to make a bold case that property taxes are evil and must be eradicated.
