LSL12- Interview with Skylar Smith - Lone Star Ladies
In this inspiring episode of Lone Star Ladies, co-hosts Sheree Rose, Darlene Howell, and Brandie Kennedy sit down with Skylar Smith, founding president of the Turning Point USA chapter at Collin College – Wiley Campus and vice president of the overall Collin County Turning Point network.
Skylar represents a new wave of young, passionate conservatives determined to defend free speech, teach American values, and bring honest discussion back to college campuses. At just 25 years old, he’s helping students engage in civic life through education, debate, and community events that connect campuses across North Texas.
Before the interview, Sheree recaps key upcoming events for conservative voters and activists:
Precinct Chair Filing — Open through December 8 (DentonGOP.org)
Nov 13: Conservative Cup with Rep. Pat Fallon, 9:30–10:30 a.m., Denton County GOP Office
Nov 17: Woody Huffines Kickoff for Collin County Commissioner, Taverna Rosa – Lakeside Market
Nov 18: Coffee with the Colonel — Larry Brock, 8–9 a.m., Six Sips Coffee House, Prosper
Nov 24: Dr. Pete Chambers event (Plano County Conservatives, 6–8 p.m.)
Dec 2: Melinda Preston Kickoff — Sullivan’s Old Town BBQ, Lewisville
Jan 10, 2026: Lincoln–Reagan Dinner — Hyatt DFW
Skylar shares how his Collin College chapter—one of four in the county (Frisco, Plano, McKinney, and Wiley)—is growing fast, now reaching 50+ members and partnering with chapters across North Texas and beyond. He describes Turning Point’s mission to:
Champion free speech and patriotic education on campuses nationwide.
Foster respectful debate between right and left students.
Connect students with leadership training, national events like AmericaFest, and mentorship opportunities.
Listeners get a glimpse into how Turning Point works with both college and high school students to build future conservative leaders. Skylar also discusses the new Turning Point Committee within the Collin County GOP, helping bridge the gap between youth activism and local political engagement.
From running recruiting tables on campus to coordinating with chapters across Texas, Skylar’s enthusiasm is contagious. He reminds listeners that creating a Turning Point chapter isn’t about protest—it’s about conversation, education, and faith in America’s future.
As the Ladies note, “If this is the next generation of leadership, our future looks bright.”
