SG2- Turning Junk Into A Guitar, Built From a Shipping Pallet - Skinner Guitars
In this video, I show you exactly how I built a fully playable Jazzmaster-style electric guitar from a discarded shipping pallet using basic tools, smart techniques, and plenty of elbow grease.I’m Danny from Skinner Guitars, and in under 15 minutes you’ll see every major step of transforming pallet wood into a custom offset guitar—from body glue-ups and neck construction, to routing, shaping, fretting, finishing, and final assembly.🪵 Building the Guitar Body From Pallet WoodThis project starts with a finger-jointed acacia pallet made of ¾" planks. After breaking it down, I created multiple glue-ups to form an oversized body blank, sanded it flat, and traced a Jazzmaster shape from a printed template. Using shop-made jigs, a router, and a bandsaw, I carved the contours, pickup cavities, neck pocket, and tremolo route—plus all the classic offset body curves.🎸 Neck Build: Truss Rod, Fretboard, & ShapingI laminated two planks to make the neck blank, routed the truss-rod channel, and glued on a Sapele fingerboard. After slotting frets, shaping the headstock, and refining everything with my belt sander and Shinto rasp, I crafted a smooth 9.5" radius and installed custom oak fretboard markers before cutting, pressing, leveling, and crowning the frets.🎨 Finish & Final AssemblyWith everything shaped and sanded, I applied several coats of Watco wipe-on poly, letting each cure before final sanding. After shielding the cavities with copper tape, reinstalling the bridge thimbles, mounting the tailpiece, wiring the electronics, and polishing the frets, the guitar was ready to string up and play.If you enjoy DIY guitar building, Jazzmaster builds, pallet wood projects, or custom guitar making, hitting Like, Subscribe, and dropping a comment helps this channel grow and lets me make more videos like this!
