Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town
The 1970 claymation movie Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town tells the origin story of Santa Claus. The story is narrated by a postman named Fred, who explains how Santa came to be. It begins with a young, orphaned Kris Kringle, who is raised by a group of elves at the North Pole. Kris decides to deliver toys to children in the nearby town of Sombertown, where toys are banned by the strict and joyless ruler, Burgermeister Meisterburger.
Kris sneaks into the town to deliver toys to children but faces numerous challenges. With the help of his friends—an enchanted reindeer named Topper, a magical Winter Warlock, and a kind-hearted schoolteacher named Jessica—Kris gradually wins over the people of Sombertown. Over time, Kris adopts the persona of Santa Claus, delivering gifts on Christmas Eve and teaching the children that "it’s better to give than to receive."
The film shows Santa’s rise as a beloved figure, spreading joy and generosity, and ultimately establishing the tradition of Christmas gift-giving. The movie is filled with catchy songs and features themes of kindness, community, and the magic of Christmas.
