DCW24-Justice of the Peace 1 - Dallas County Works

Dallas County Works host Skye Garcia brings together three Justice of the Peace candidates—Lizbeth Diaz, Vicki Whiteside, and Len Benedetto—for a candid conversation about what the role really means for everyday Texans. Each candidate frames the position as a "people's court" where landlords, tenants, and even squatters must be heard fairly. Lizbeth emphasizes protecting property owners’ rights while acknowledging that landlords aren’t always right. Vicki stresses the need for compassion and balance, noting that the court handles everything from Class C misdemeanors to protective orders and even marriage licenses. Len highlights his Dallas roots and a commitment to stand up for citizens facing property disputes, warning that courts can’t afford to favor one side. The hosts and guests repeatedly stress that voting down the entire ballot is essential to install honest, unbiased judges who can navigate the delicate line between law and empathy. Listeners are urged to consider each candidate’s pledge to listen, act without bias, and keep the justice system accessible for all Dallas County residents.
